Windows Surface Scanner is a powerful software tool for Windows (XP, Vista and Windows 7
It will read each sector of a physical drive that is currently mounted on your Windows system. Each sector is examined for a read error. If a read error occurs the error counter will increment.
It is very normal that a small number of sectors will normally go bad during the lifespan of a hard drive.
