Center Align YouTube’s Homepage to Fix White Space Issue on Wide Screens

Few days back, Google implemented a refresh layout to YouTube aiming to fine-tune the service with other Google properties. Now, YouTube’s homepage look a lot like Google+. However, one annoyance that I come across with this new layout is lot of white space on the right of my wide screen monitor. Here is how to fix this annoyance.

As YouTube’s home page is now left aligned, on wide screens it results lot of blank space at the right. If you hate this, you can fix this issue by installing “Youtube Center Aligned” user script on your browser.

Youtube Center Aligned user scrip works on Firefox, Chrome, and easy to implement. To install the script, go to Userscript.com and download it.

For Firefox, you have Greasemonkey extension installed on your browser to install Youtube Center Aligned” user script. So, first install GM script and then install the user script.

For Chrome (also Opera), you don’t need Greasemonkey to install the user script. Download the user script, and open the Chrome Extension page (Menu > Tools > Extensions) and drag-and-drop the downloaded script inside to install it.

After installing the user script, go to YouTube homage, click on the YouTube Center toggle icon (gear like icon, see screenshot) and check the box “Center Page”. (Via – techtrickz.com)

Generally speaking, Meta refresh is a method used by some websites to instruct a web browser to automatically refresh/redirect the current web page after a given time interval. You can see this type of refresh/redirect especially in media sites. This is some times annoying or can be used for malicious purposes by redirecting you to a malicious site. If you don’t like this feature, you can disable this in your browser. Here is how to disable this in Internet Explore/Chrome, Firefox and Opera. Internet Explorer: Go to Tools - Internet options - Security tab - Custom Level button - Miscellaneous category - set "Allow Meta refresh" to Disable. Firefox: Go to Tools - Options - Advanced - General - Accessibility and tick the option next to ‘Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page’. Alternatively you can use extension RefreshBlocker . Opera: Go to Preferences - Advanced - Network and uncheck "Enable automatic redirection".
