How to keep your Windows installation drive always fresh?

Thursday, December 18, 2008

One of the best methods to secure a computer from viruses and spyware programs is leave the Windows OS installation drive (Normally C drive) untouched. It should be protect from any changes made to it. Don’t let anything affect this drive.

This is what Returnil will do. It doesn’t let anything affect the ‘C’ drive (windows installation drive). Through the virtualization technology, it creates an abstract layer over the main drive. Any changes made will be automatically saved only for the current virtual session and will be automatically erased up on the next reboot.

This technique can easily prevent malware and spyware programs, because any changes made to the system are automatically erased when you restart your computer. And also, if you want to test different software on your PC, this application might be a perfect choice.

For normal use, you need not do much. Just download and install it, right click on the tray icon and click on “Enable” if it is not enabled, that’s all! Further details are available from the help file.

Remember that, after the protection is activated you need to be extra cautious as to where you save data, because any data saved on C drive will be lost on the next system boot. The free version is for personal use only. Download it from programs home page.
