How to read Word 2007 documents (docx) using browser Opera, Internet Explorer and Firefox?

Microsoft Word 2007 uses the .docx format for saving documents. These files cannot be opened using the older versions of Word (word 97 – 2003) or other word processors. If you don’t have Word 2007 installed, you should require some other tools to view these documents, such as a word a reader or word viewer from Microsof. But, what about if you can open these documents (DOCX) using your browser?

The OpenXML Document Viewer team has created a browser plug-in for converting Word document (.DOCX) into HTML format so that it can be viewed on a browser. As DOCX format is basically an extended XML format, it can be easily converted to HTML format.

The current release supports Internet Explorer 7, IE 8, Opera 9.62, Firefox 3.browsers on the Windows OS (XP, Vista and above) and Opera 9.62 and Firefox 3 on Linux .

Installation instruction, download a suitable plug-in for your browser from here. For example, download plug-in for Firefox.

1. Extract OpenXMLViewer to a temporary folder
2. Open ‘OpenXMLViewer_Win_Firefox.xpi’ with Firefox and install the plug-in.
3. Restart your browser and open the required word document using the browser to read.

Disable automatic Meta refresh/redirect of websites in browser for security reasons[how to]
