Download Norton Power Eraser

The Norton Power Eraser is a specially designed program for removing rogueware (potentially unwanted program) from a Windows PC.

The growing rogue programs or misleading applications, if installed, use fake pop-up alerts or security messages that scare you into thinking your PC has been infected and needs to be fixed immediately.

Rogue software will often install Trojan and automatically download unnecessary items onto your PC even if you didn’t actively click on anything.

The new Norton Power Eraser eliminates deeply embedded and difficult to remove crimeware (rogue programs) that traditional virus scanning doesn't always detect.

To use this portable tool an active internet connection is necessary. Download Norton Power Eraser for free at source.

  2. Be careful - as the app warns, it is highly aggressive in detecting potential issues. Many common type apps are marked including many third-party firewalls, AVs and really any program that by design uses a keyboard hook.

  3. Used it to remove some rogue spy-ware and all it found was the shortcut to it....not very useful

  4. Last week was the first time the tool saw public use. I expect the false positive rate will go down over time. I suggest checking the Norton Power Eraser page for any updates to the tool since Norton is planning on frequent updates during the Beta. Just make sure to review the results screen to see exactly what the tool food and deselect any file that you are certain is safe.If however, you make a mistake and remove a file you need, NPE allows you to easily recover files from the review/undo menu.

Disable automatic Meta refresh/redirect of websites in browser for security reasons[how to]

Generally speaking, Meta refresh is a method used by some websites to instruct a web browser to automatically refresh/redirect the current web page after a given time interval. You can see this type of refresh/redirect especially in media sites. This is some times annoying or can be used for malicious purposes by redirecting you to a malicious site. Internet Explorer: Go to Tools - Internet options - Security tab - Custom Level button - Miscellaneous category - set "Allow Meta refresh" to Disable. Firefox: Go to Tools - Options - Advanced - General - Accessibility and tick the option next to ‘Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page’. Alternatively you can use extension RefreshBlocker . Opera: Go to Preferences - Advanced - Network and uncheck "Enable automatic redirection".
