How to Speed-Up Windows Start By Enabling Full Processor Power?

By default, Windows is configured to start with single processor. If you have a multi core system, here is a simple tip to use full power of your processor, so that it will speed-up your Windows start-up time.

This tip is applicable to Windows XP, Vista and Windows7 and is identical. Just follow as described below.

1. Type msconfig in the search box and press Enter. For XP, Start – Run and type msconfig.

2. From the popup window select ‘Boot’ tab and then ‘Advanced’ (Windows7). For XP select ‘BOOT.INI’ tab and then ‘Advanced’ option.

3. This will open the advanced options window. For Windows7, check the box against ‘Number of Processor’ and select 2 (or other) from the dropdown list.

For XP, check the box against /NUMPROC= and select 2 (or other) from the list. Click OK to save the settings.

Note: When testing this on my Windows7 and XP dual core machine, found that Windows7 required around 10 seconds less time and XP around 5 second less time to completely boot up.
