How to lock your PC automatically when you are away from it?

Some times you forget to lock your PC or workstation when you step away; giving intruders a chance to misuse your data (see my previous article on locking a PC using USB key).

Here is a great tool that automatically locks your PC whenever you are away. Just download the free tool BtProx and installed on your machine.

In order to use this tool make sure that your PC has a built in Bluetooth device or get a Bluetooth dongle. Activate the device by going to Control Panel – Double click Bluetooth icon.

Now run a search till you find your mobile phone (don’t forget to enable Bluetooth on your phone).

Then run BtProx and click search button (,,,,,) to find your phone and select it. Then change the timeout value, any value after which you would like switch of your PC.

BtProx uses the Bluetooth range to lock your PC. It locks Windows upon disconnection of Bluetooth device.

There are various options for advanced users like run a particular application when your PC is locked, etc.

Disable automatic Meta refresh/redirect of websites in browser for security reasons[how to]

Generally speaking, Meta refresh is a method used by some websites to instruct a web browser to automatically refresh/redirect the current web page after a given time interval. You can see this type of refresh/redirect especially in media sites. This is some times annoying or can be used for malicious purposes by redirecting you to a malicious site. Internet Explorer: Go to Tools - Internet options - Security tab - Custom Level button - Miscellaneous category - set "Allow Meta refresh" to Disable. Firefox: Go to Tools - Options - Advanced - General - Accessibility and tick the option next to ‘Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page’. Alternatively you can use extension RefreshBlocker . Opera: Go to Preferences - Advanced - Network and uncheck "Enable automatic redirection".
