How to set Internet Explorer as default browser in Windows Live messenger 2009?

Windows Live Messenger 2009 users may know that, when clicking the Mail button will open Hotmail or Live mail in the default browser only. If it is not Internet Explorer, it will not provide the automatic log-on into the mail account.

There was no such issue in the previous versions of Live Messenger. It would automatically log you into Hotmail regardless of your default browser.

Jonathankay has created a little tool called Hotmail in IE to solve this problem. This tool will allow you to continue to use your default browser in Windows, but use Internet Explorer for Messenger’s Hotmail features.

How to use: Just download the executable and run it (no installation required). You will be get a window as shown below:

Choose the Internet Explorer button and select ‘Done’ that’s all, no further changes should be needed.

Supports Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7(Both 32-bit or 64-bit).

  1. I would like more and more if Microsoft implemented the auto-login function in all browser, not only in its browser!

Disable automatic Meta refresh/redirect of websites in browser for security reasons[how to]

Generally speaking, Meta refresh is a method used by some websites to instruct a web browser to automatically refresh/redirect the current web page after a given time interval. You can see this type of refresh/redirect especially in media sites. This is some times annoying or can be used for malicious purposes by redirecting you to a malicious site. If you don’t like this feature, you can disable this in your browser. Here is how to disable this in Internet Explore/Chrome, Firefox and Opera. Internet Explorer: Go to Tools - Internet options - Security tab - Custom Level button - Miscellaneous category - set "Allow Meta refresh" to Disable. Firefox: Go to Tools - Options - Advanced - General - Accessibility and tick the option next to ‘Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page’. Alternatively you can use extension RefreshBlocker . Opera: Go to Preferences - Advanced - Network and uncheck "Enable automatic redirection".
