While enlarging an image in traditional method (linear method), you might notice that the enlarged image is blurred, because the additional space required by the enlarged picture is filled with the adjacent pixels.
Seam carving is an intelligent image resizing technology with which you can adjust the image size using flexible seams. This non-linear method allows the image to be resized while changing its aspect ratio and keeping important features untouched. It adds or remove parts to an image that would be least noticed.
I am not saying that the Seam Carving is the perfect method for all image resizing needs. It is not suitable for all images; instead it is suitable with images that have many central objects.
The Seam Carving GUI (available for Mac, Windows and Linux) is a simple program for image resizing. The application (4.7Mb) required no installation and needs little knowledge about how to resize an image using this tool.
Additional Resources: You can watch video tutorial here about seam carving. Also watch a demo here. The online image resizing application Rsizr is also implement seam carving technology, you can try it here.
This is very interesting and I am going to test this.
