Control Power Consumption Of Your PC With SmartPower

SmartPower is a tiny application that gives you greater control over your PC’s power-saving settings. You can schedule when your computer should wake up and stay on, and prevent it from hibernating or going to sleep when certain devices are connected, your processor is busy, or particular programs are running.

SmartPower is very easy to configure and it uses only minimal system resources. Smart Power is particularly suited to Windows Home Servers, torrent/download boxes and HTPCs.

SmartPower's main goal is to hibernate, suspend, or shutdown your PC. This utility lets you create rules that prevent this happening. When SmartPower sees that no rules currently apply it will initiate hibernate (or suspend, or shutdown).

The potential rules are:

  • One or more schedules are active - A schedule is a period of time during which the PC must stay on. By default SmartPower will wake-up your PC in order to honour a schedule.
  • One or more devices are online - A device is anything on your network that will respond to a ping.
  • Network throughput (the bytes flowing through a particular interface) is above a configurable threshold.
  • CPU usage is above a configurable threshold.
  • One or more processes are running - A process is a Windows process.

SmartPower can be downloaded (556Kb) free at source

Therefore, the question here is how to restore a USB flash drive to its full capacity.

The safest way to surf the web is to pick the best browser, but how? The most important parameter while judging a browser is its security . Because of the ever growing threats via web browsers, browser developers have trying to give best security features to their browser. All major browsers have added security technologies to combat web-based threats, but, not all of them have taken the same approach, nor claim to stop the same breadth of attacks. NSS Labs , the leading independent security product testing and certification organization, has examined six major browsers- A pple Safari, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera against socially engineered Malware and published a report called ‘ Web Browser Security - Socially Engineered Malware Protection ’.
