Classic Start Menu For Win 7 Without Software

Few months back we have written here a tutorial for making classic start menu for Windows 7 without any software. Here is another method for enabling classic start menu in Windows 7 without any third party software. Users who still love the old Windows 98 style Classic start menu may love this one for their Win 7.

This is very simple. Right click on the Taskbar in Windows 7 and select Toolbars – New Toolbars.

It'll open a ‘Browse’ dialog box. Copy and paste the following code in the folder text box and click on ‘Select folder’ button. It’ll add ‘Programs’ toolbar to Taskbar near the tray icon.

%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

To bring this ‘Programs’ toolbar near to the start button (Start ORB), once again right click on the taskbar and uncheck the option ‘Lock the Taskbar’. It’ll display a placeholder to drag the toolbar. Drag the placeholder handle and drop it just after the Start ORB.

You’ll also see many folders under "Programs" toolbar taking lots of space of your Taskbar. To remove this, double-click on drag-handle of Taskbar button. It'll move the Taskbar button toolbar and you'll see only "Programs" text in the newly added toolbar. (Via)

If you don’t like this feature, you can disable this in your browser. Here is how to disable this in Internet Explore/Chrome, Firefox and Opera. Internet Explorer: Go to Tools - Internet options - Security tab - Custom Level button - Miscellaneous category - set "Allow Meta refresh" to Disable. Firefox: Go to Tools - Options - Advanced - General - Accessibility and tick the option next to ‘Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page’. Alternatively you can use extension RefreshBlocker . Opera: Go to Preferences - Advanced - Network and uncheck "Enable automatic redirection".
