Create Your Own Custom Most Popular Sites in IE9

Internet Explorer 9’s new feature ‘Most Popular Sites’ displays your most frequently visited sites (default 10 sites) in a tab, so you can visit your favorite sites just with a click. But this display is not permanent and you may find that few of your favorites have got replaced over time.

But with a small utility called IE9 Tweaker you can create a customized ‘Most Popular Sites’. You can add your favorite sites manually and access them with a click. To do that follow as described below.

Run IE9 Tweaker (no installation needed) and click on the ‘Create custom home page’ button. Enter the names and URLs of your favorite sites, the click on ‘Create’ button.

You can set this custom favorite page to open whenever you run Internet Explorer 9 as described here.

IE9 Tweaker can also do many other things to Internet Explorer 9 such as:
  1. Set menu bar to be always visible
  2. Set menu bar on top
  3. Set InPrivate Filtering to be always on
  4. Always start IE in full-screen
  5. Set small icons on toolbar
  6. 3D boarder, etc,
IE9 Tweaker can be downloaded at source. Before running the tool make sure that IE 9 has properly closed.

Disable automatic Meta refresh/redirect of websites in browser for security reasons[how to]

Generally speaking, Meta refresh is a method used by some websites to instruct a web browser to automatically refresh/redirect the current web page after a given time interval. You can see this type of refresh/redirect especially in media sites. This is some times annoying or can be used for malicious purposes by redirecting you to a malicious site. If you don’t like this feature, you can disable this in your browser. Here is how to disable this in Internet Explore/Chrome, Firefox and Opera. Internet Explorer: Go to Tools - Internet options - Security tab - Custom Level button - Miscellaneous category - set "Allow Meta refresh" to Disable. Firefox: Go to Tools - Options - Advanced - General - Accessibility and tick the option next to ‘Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page’. Alternatively you can use extension RefreshBlocker . Opera: Go to Preferences - Advanced - Network and uncheck "Enable automatic redirection".
