Customize Number of Tiles Rows Displayed in Windows 8 Start Screen

A most notable feature of Microsoft’s new operating system Windows 8 is its Start Screen with live widgets and app shortcuts in it. This user friendly, vibrant and beautiful start screen has also offers some customization options like pin tiles and then group, arrange, and name them, change tattoos and colors. Though, Windows 8 automatically adjust the number rows in the Start Menu depending on the screen resolution (up to six rows), it has no direct option to change the number of tiles in a raw.

If you screen has vertical space to spare, you can increase as well as decrease the maximum number of rows with a small application called Windows 8 Start Screen Tiles Rows adjuster. This tool works according to your screen resolution, i.e. a 1366×768 resolution limits up to 4 rows.

With this tool, if you have a 1366×768 screen resolution, then you can reduce the number rows in the Start Menu to 3, 2 and 1 from 4. Likewise, if the screen is 768×1366 resolution (vertical) it supports 8 rows, so you can reduce the numbers of rows to 7,6,5,4 and so on.

 How to Use Row Adjuster?

The application is very simple to use. After running the app, just enter the numeric value in the Numbers of rows option and click Apply. You can see the effect instantly without restarting Windows 8.

Similarly, if you would prefer system default numbers of rows, just click “Restore default” button. That’s it!

Note: With this app you can’t increase the numbers of rows beyond the set limit. Start Screen Row Adjuster is a portable app and works on Windows 8 (x86/x64 versions). It can be downloaded from source.
